Preparing For Ink - Your Preparation Guide

Whether it’s your first tattoo, a cover up tattoo or adding to an existing collection, taking the time to prepare for your appointment can make a significant difference in the overall experience and outcome. To help you get ready for your tattoo appointment, we have put together a comprehensive guide.

Come Well-Rested

We understand the temptation of daily cocktails and late nights at some of Bali’s most popular spots – however, in the days leading up to your tattoo appointment, it’s important you are well rested, hydrated and not hungover. This will not only make you feel better but it will also support the healing process after you get inked.

Dress Comfortable

Some appointments can take hours, if not, days. So it’s important to wear clothing that you will feel comfortable in – it’s important to choose clothing that also allows easy access to the area where you’ll be getting tattooed. It is preferred to wear something loose-fitting that won’t rub against the fresh tattoo. Note, that some inks can stain clothing, so we suggest wearing something you don’t mind getting a little ink on.

Snacks & Hydration

Bring snacks and water to have during breaks to keep your energy levels up. Some tattoo sessions can be lengthy. It’s also important to avoid drinking excessive amounts of caffeine, not only due to an increased heart rate but also because it can increase your sensitivity and make your experience less enjoyable.

Communication

Discuss aspects such as size, colour, placement and any other modifications before the session begins – ensure that you’re happy with the final design before proceeding with your tattoo appointment. This will ensure your tattoo artist has a clear understanding of your vision and you can walk away captivated by the end result.

Aftercare

Prior to your appointment, familiarise yourself with the aftercare procedures – be sure to ask your tattoo artist prior so you can purchase any recommended ointments or creams. Most tattoo studios offer a trusted aftercare product you can purchase in person after your appointment. This will help the healing process and maximise the end result. Note, you will need to avoid swimming in pools, oceans and direct sunlight – so it’s best to plan your tattoo appointment towards the end of your holiday.
